Volunteer Mentors Program Starting at the Villa

Volunteers, and especially volunteer mentors, are incredibly important to the Villa.  Thus far, our need has been met by some incredibly talented people, but as our needs increase, we have been looking for ways to expand tohe pool of people who can make such a HUGE difference in a young person’s life.

In late April, the Virginia Mentoring Partnership notified us that the Villa had been selected as a VISTA Host Site and part of the VMP VISTA Mentoring Program.  The program will provide a VISTA member as Mentor Program Coordinator for one year, beginning in late August.  VMP also will provide the Villa with training and technical assistance in developing and/or building capacity for our mentoring program.

It took a lot of work to receive this grant, and we are SO excited about the possibilities the grant will provide!

If you are interested in learning more about the Villa’s mentoring program and whether it is something you would like to do, please call Catherine Stanley, the Villa’s Manager of Volunteer and Community Resources.  You can reach Catherine by telephone (804-521-5577) or by email (cstanley@sjvmail.net).  She will be happy to tell you more about the program.

Thank you!

Day Treatment Spring Break a Success!

Children in the Villa’s Therapeutic Day Treatment had a wonderful Spring Break, as they got to go on lots of great field trips.  On Thursday, chidren who had earned the privilege through their good behavior and success with the pogramwent to an area Putt-Putt as a reward and on Friday, they were able to visit the go-kart track!  Way to go, guys!

Spring Break is LOTS of Fun at Day Support!

Spring Break is a great time for kids, and it’s no exception at the Villa!  Especially if you are in the Villa’s Day Support program!  The program uses themes throughout the week to make each day special, and there were several field trips out into the community to explore the themes in greater depth.  At right, Tye Williamson, the program’s recreational therapist, is shown helping the children with their athletic skills.  What fun!
