Volunteer Mentors Program Starting at the Villa

Volunteers, and especially volunteer mentors, are incredibly important to the Villa.  Thus far, our need has been met by some incredibly talented people, but as our needs increase, we have been looking for ways to expand tohe pool of people who can make such a HUGE difference in a young person’s life.

In late April, the Virginia Mentoring Partnership notified us that the Villa had been selected as a VISTA Host Site and part of the VMP VISTA Mentoring Program.  The program will provide a VISTA member as Mentor Program Coordinator for one year, beginning in late August.  VMP also will provide the Villa with training and technical assistance in developing and/or building capacity for our mentoring program.

It took a lot of work to receive this grant, and we are SO excited about the possibilities the grant will provide!

If you are interested in learning more about the Villa’s mentoring program and whether it is something you would like to do, please call Catherine Stanley, the Villa’s Manager of Volunteer and Community Resources.  You can reach Catherine by telephone (804-521-5577) or by email (cstanley@sjvmail.net).  She will be happy to tell you more about the program.

Thank you!

Villa Volunteers are THE BEST!

During the past year, 973 volunteers supported St. Joseph’s Villa by providing more than 11,140 hours!

Volunteers supported the Villa by:

  • Serving more than 215 families in the Villa’s Donation Center
  • Giving more than 560 hours to mentor at-risk youth
  • Assembling almost 250 backpacks to help our school children
  • Reading more than 800 books to Villa children
  • Collecting and assembling more than 1,000 food bags and 325 personal hygiene kits for struggling families
  • Gathering and distributing holiday presents to more than 375 children and adults

Our volunteers help the Villa build brighter futures for more than 1,000 children and families each year.

During National Volunteer Week, St. Joseph’s Villa salutes the people who have given SO MUCH to help those in need!  We couldn’t do it without you!!

Community Groups Bring the Holidays to our Children

We couldn't have the holidays without our volunteers and donors!

A big “Thank you!” to all of the community groups and individuals who donated food and gifts for the children and families of St. Joseph’s Villa.  The Villa gathered gifts for more than 350 children this year, and this would not have been possible without the support of people who cared about our children.  Thank you for making this holiday the BEST EVER!

Holiday Shoppe A HUGE Success!

The Holiday Shoppe gave our children a place to shop for their families

In addition to providing gifts FOR the children, the Villa also provided a “Holiday Shoppe” where children could come in, select presents for their family members and then have them wrapped.  This was a HUGE success!  More than 200 children visited the Shoppe, made their choices and then had them wrapped up to take home.
