Functional and Academic Curriculum

At the Villa Education Center, our services revolve around the unique strengths, needs, and interests of each student. Activities and materials are thoughtfully designed to meet students where they are and support their growth toward individual goals. Every lesson, whether one-on-one or in small groups, is crafted with the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) objectives as the foundation. Our approach focuses on maximizing independence at school, at home, and in the community.

Our instructional activities are designed to:

• Engage students with meaningful and motivating content
• Encourage active participation
• Build foundational skills before advancing to more complex skills
• Provide consistent opportunities to practice IEP-targeted skills
• Enhance communication opportunities

Integrated Speech Services

Communication and social opportunities begin from the moment a student arrives at the Villa Education Center. Our two dedicated Speech-Language Pathologists work closely with each student and their family, engaging them as active partners in the educational journey. 

Speech therapy is seamlessly woven into daily classroom activities, allowing students to build communication skills in natural, meaningful contexts. Throughout the school day, our Speech-Language Pathologists actively support teachers by modeling strategies that encourage language development and reduce challenging behaviors, helping to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

One of the most distinctive features of the Villa Education Center is our strong emphasis on community-based instruction. We believe that real-world experiences are essential for helping students gain confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. That’s why community outings are an integral part of each school day. 

Students regularly visit restaurants, grocery stores, parks, libraries, museums, and other local destinations, where they can practice everyday skills such as navigating public spaces, managing money, and interacting with others. We also expand horizons with special trips to places like Washington D.C. and Virginia Beach, offering students the chance to apply what they’ve learned in exciting new environments! Each outing is an opportunity to build social connections and create a bridge between school and life in the community.

On campus, students also transition between settings for meals, vocational training, physical education, and recreational activities throughout the day. These structured transitions mirror public school routines and help students develop adaptability to succeed in environments outside of school.

Students and families have access to a robust network of Villa services to support success at school, at home, and in the community. Our integrated services include:

• Career & Transition Services
• Intensive In-Home Services (Medicaid funded)
• Outpatient Behavioral Therapy (ABA services, Medicaid funded)
• Mental & Behavioral Health Crisis Services
• Housing & Homeless Services

The Villa’s 82-acre campus provides a safe and enriching environment with playgrounds, a gymnasium, a Learning and Therapy Garden, and essential resources like laundry facilities and a food pantry that help address daily needs.
